Our poultry - free to range, free to roam - free as a bird
We
look after 3,000 – 4,000 birds at Offchurch.
Our 2,000 laying hens are Lohman (hybrids) which lay about 325
eggs a year. We keep Ross and Hubbard chickens – the latter,
slow-growing and bred for free range, produce a particularly well
textured meat.
Our 500 ducks are Aylesbury cross
All our birds range from 7.30 till dusk in natural, open and shaded
woodland areas with access to a stream passing through the property.
They are fed a high quality wheat/soya/maize blend plus essential
vitamins and extract of marigold.
They supplement this by scratching all day for frogs, worms and
insects. No antibiotics are
given.
Chickens
are killed at 10 – 12 weeks and ducks at 14 weeks.
These more mature birds produce a much better flavoured and
textured poultry.
All the birds are slaughtered humanely on the premises in a calm environment. The farm has its own refrigeration and cutting room.
